Cities in August look different, for a whole month they show a side that is hidden during the rest of the year. nss magazine explores the transformation of three Italian cities: Rome, Milan, and Naples. The first episode is dedicated to Milan.
Milan looks like a desert in August. The sidewalk is almost melting under the sun, the air is hotter than blazes and the pollution surrounds the city putting everything on standby. The supermarket you would see overcrowded by nine-to-fivers is now almost empty. San Siro Stadium which normally changes flags every Sunday is now a lonely block of concrete ruling over Milan. The most lively and hectic city in Italy finds itself still, the buzz of ZX breaks the silence in Cadorna square. The city that looks proudly towards Europe, for a month a year, slows down and lets itself naked to the eyes of those of who haven’t left.
Toni Brugnoli, with his raw and straight-forward style, has captured for nss magazine the city’s pure and still essence in August.
Toni Brugnoli, born 1990 in the suburbs of Milan, where he grows the passion for mopeds, football, pizza and sneakers. These elements will become proper symbols for Toni, to be used to tell and exasperate the reality he lives through his photographic work.
