"VAPE" is the word of 2014
November 18th, 2014
Most likely you'll get up this morning wondering what to do all day lexicographers at Oxford University. The answer is elementary: do not give truce. I spend it all working hours browsing books, stories, blogs, newspapers and analyzing all the lyrics word for word imaginable. Thought to be the only ones to use terms such as "abhor", "seine" or "reprimand"? You were wrong, the learned men above if you eat them for breakfast your expressions educated. Their meticulous daily work has, among many, an original purpose: to identify the thick forest linguistic what may become the word of the year. If the first podium finish of 2013 was occupied by stupratissima "Selfie", 2014 sees the self-timer eclipsed by four letters "vape".
With "vape" we do not mean the wide range of insect repellent products but rather the verb which indicates that action of inhaling and throw out the steam produced by an electronic cigarette or a similar contraption. It was coined in 1980, the year of incubation of what has now become a new way of smoking as well as a real way of life made of "pause svappata" with friends.
The fact of electing a word meaning a year linked to the controversial world of smoke raised as we could expect fuss ethical relation to the welfare and health, but smoking and svappare are really the same thing? For posterity will judge.
