The great return of the Atari console
Along with an online gaming system and cryptocurrency payments
October 19th, 2020
Until a few hours ago, this year's biggest news on the gaming horizon was the upcoming releases of Sony's new PlayStation 5 and Microsoft's Xbox Series X. But iconic US company Atari, a pioneer in the gaming world and creator of Pac-Man, has finally released the official images of its new console, Atari VCS, which has been in development since 2017 and which will be released in the same month as the other two competing consoles. This coincidence doesn't seem to intimidate Frederic Chesnais, CEO of Atari, who told Bloomberg:
We have a brand, we have a following — we think we are going to get some attention in any case.
Although the console will retain its vintage look, it will be fully updated to current technologies and will come along with a bundle of 100 classic games. The digital currency named Atari Token will be used both to buy games and for in-game expenses and Atari hopes to make it a valid currency through all gaming platforms.
