Apple's new plastic mask for American hospitals
Tim Cook also announced the distribution of twenty million masks

Yesterday, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced via a video posted on Twitter that not only will Apple donate twenty million masks to American doctors, but that the Cupertino company has developed a new healthcare product, defined for now only as a "face shield", already renamed by the Internet iShield, which will be produced every week in one million units and will serve to protect operators working closely with coronavirus infected patients. The first beneficiary of the donation will be Kaiser Hospital Facilities in Santa Clara, California, but soon the Apple supply chain will begin bringing it to other American hospitals as well.
Apple is dedicated to supporting the worldwide response to COVID-19. We’ve now sourced over 20M masks through our supply chain. Our design, engineering, operations and packaging teams are also working with suppliers to design, produce and ship face shields for medical workers. pic.twitter.com/3xRqNgMThX

The face shield is made of plastic, is easily transportable and can be assembled and become functional within two minutes. This type of plastic protection would be much safer for medical professionals and being adjustable will provide more convenience and comfort for those who will have to wear it for long hospital shifts. This is the first time Apple will produce medical supplies in its factories, following the same strategy as companies like GM and Tesla that have developed and distributed specific products to combat coronavirus.
