UPDATE 10/12/2019: The Louis Vuitton x League of Legends capsule collection designed by Nicolas Ghesquière in partnership with Riot Games has finally been revealed. The capsule is about womenswear, being a tribute to Qiyana, the female protagonist of League of Legends, for which Ghesquière had already made the Prestige skins signed Louis Vuitton and which appears reproduced on t-shirts and keychains.
The eSports are increasingly entering the fabric of pop culture, collaborating with football teams, basketball teams, streetwear brands and sometimes also with haute couture maison. Louis Vuitton was the last big brand to announce a collaboration in the field of eSports, in particular with Riot Games, the American developer of League of Legends, a videogame born in 2009 which, during the last World Championship, was followed by over 60 million of spectators and has become the most used PC game in the world.
The final League of Legends World Championships took place in Paris, the last weekend. The trophy of the competition, won by the FunPlus Phoenix team, was contained inside a tailor-made trunk by Louis Vuitton, inspired by the history of the brand and the science fiction universe of video games. The relationship between the French brand and the video game that has become a cultural phenomenon has also expanded through a capsule collection of skins for the digital characters of the video game, designed by the Artistic Director of Women's Collections, Nicolas Ghesquière.
This is a historic partnership that pushes further the horizons and possibilities of fashion brands, that now can become protagonists of the digital world, a phenomenon that is already started with digital influencers like Lil Miquela. The delivery of the Summoner's Cup was not only a triumph for the 15,000 people present at the building during the final and for all eSports enthusiasts, but also an unusual meeting point within that cauldron that is contemporary culture.
