Supreme NY opens pop-up store in Manhattan
Due to a major renovation in the OG store while Supreme Italia is preparing its big Chinese opening
February 21st, 2019
Supreme has just revealed on Instagram a preview of the new pop-up store in Manhattan, which will temporarily replace the historic New York store on Lafayette Street, closed for the first major renovation since 1994. Supreme decided to move from Brooklyn to Manhattan, precisely at 190 Bowery - in Nolita - where today the new temporary store will be inaugurated. The American brand did not specify how long the renovation works of the OG location will last, but given the new pop up store, a long period can be expected.
In the preview photos of the new store show the structure of the new store, including a sculpture by the artist Mark Gonzales in the middle of the space. The internal style remains very similar to OG store, one of the novelties could be the dressing rooms: which will be located in the former bank vaults.
The new location is located in a historic Manhattan's building built in 1898 with the typical New York architectural style of those years: gorgeous entrance, large windows, marble pillars. The building has hosted Germania Bank for over half a century and was bought in 2015 by Aby Rosen, who rents the ground floor for temporary stores.
While in China...
Earlier this week, we collected some tests from the lookbook ss19 presented yesterday that seem to confirm the opening of a Supreme in Milan for next year. The main goal of the opening will be taking the battle against legit fake brand Supreme Italia to another level.
While Supreme NY is moving to Manhattan, Supreme Italia is preparing the inauguration of its first store in China in Shanghai, where IBF has registered the Supreme brand.
The Shanghai store should be the first in a much broader global expansion plan: IBF announced the opening of 70 physical stores worldwide, especially in markets where Supreme NY is not present except for resell. Meanwhile, the legal battle continues in the courts, and Supreme NY has announced that it will change the attitude against the fake. The war is just started.
