Amos Rex: the new modernist house of Finnish art
After a long renovation, the new Anderson Art Museum will be inaugurated in August

If this summer you are planning a trip to Finland and you love art, there is a place you should definitely visit: the Amos "Rex" Anderson Art Museum.
This building, a Scandinavian modernist icon, built in 1936, will be inaugurated in August, after a radical renovation by the architectural firm JKMM.
The idea behind the innovation project was to incorporate the Lasipalatsi structure in the new museum building, a beautiful glass building that stands on Helsinki's main street, including its cinema, the Bio Rex, and exhibition spaces under the square also called Lasipalatsi.
The old complex will act as an entrance; while under the courtyard of the former office and theater there will be more than 2000 square meters of open-plan exhibition space, which can be reconfigured to accommodate a wide variety of works.
From the square will emerge futuristic cones, a kind of skylights able to provide the environment with lighting and air. The Bio Rex will be conserved to host festivals and film screenings, exploring "an intersection between cinema and visual arts".
The Amos Rex will be inaugurated in August ... you have just enough time to plan a trip to Helsinki!
