Prada invests 65 million for Luna Rossa's participation in the America's cup
The brand is also "naming and presenting sponsor" of all the events of the challenge
January 26th, 2018
"The sponsorship of Luna Rossa's participation in the America's Cup is in line with the company's communication strategy to promote the Prada name and brand. The company has taken into account many factors, including the size of the competition and the expected amount of press coverage of the competition, which will attract massive attention all around the world and tremendous press coverage from both the traditional ones and the new technologies media."
With these words, the Italian company comments on its important involvement in the 36th edition of the famous regatta.
The Prada group has, in fact, announced that it will support the boat for its sixth participation in the tender with a loan of 65 million euro, spread over four installments, within a commitment between January 2018 and until June 2021 (the year of the Luna Rossa Cup, the selection of challengers and then the final real), with the following shares: 25 million (31/12/2018), 25 million (31/12/2019), 25 million (31/12/2020), 9 million (31/12/2021).
This edition will be particularly significant for the Milanese brand, which also becomes "naming and presenting" exclusive sponsor, for all the events of the 36th America's cup. Among these new responsibilities are included the challenger selection series, which will no longer be called Louis Vuitton cup (which has organized them since 1983), but will be officially Prada cup.
For Miuccia Prada's company it is an unprecedented investment and image since Patrizio Bertelli decided to embark on the adventure of the America's Cup in the late 90s.
Fun fact: The launch of the first boat named Luna Rossa occurred in Punta Ala on May 5, 1999, with godmother Miuccia Prada and officiating the parish priest of the seaside resort.
