The London rapper Octavian just dropped Spaceman, the mixtape we were all craving for.
Virgil Abloh adores him so much he wanted to design himself the layout of the album cover. The 22-year-old born in France of Angolan heritage, who has been co-signed by
Drake, is a restless fighter. Since the release of his 2017 single
Party Here he has been accumulating major buzz packing his music with an outstanding personality.
Spaceman’s lead single,
Revenge, is a manifesto telling anyone who ever doubted of him that they were totally wrong.
Revenge is unchanging through its sub-two-minute runtime, holding its bite until cutting out abruptly, a final middle finger thrown to the air. Rough and bitter, it’s not the kind of song you’d expect from someone on the precipice of fame, but Octavian’s boldness is what makes him one of the most interesting voices coming from the UK right now. His songs churn up R&B and dancehall with downbeat grime, peppy house, and UK hip-hop; in his quicksand rasp is a wise, ageless quality, so easy to relate to.
Spaceman is now available on Spotify and Apple Music.
