Why Dicaprio has invested in a French champagne house
When Hollywood supports biodiversity
April 3rd, 2025
Leonardo DiCaprio invests in Champagne Telmont, a subsidiary of the Rémy Cointreau group, which stands out for its sustainable approach. The American actor, known for his environmental commitments, has become a minority shareholder in the French house to support the "In the Name of the Earth" project. Maison Telmont, based in Damery, aims to become "climate positive" by reducing its greenhouse gas emissions and offsetting more than it produces. It also aims to achieve a net positive balance by 2050, which involves drastically reducing its emissions by at least 90% and sequestering residual emissions. An ambitious project that quickly caught the attention of the Hollywood actor. The latter, who is also a United Nations Messenger of Peace for Climate Change, stated on social media: “By protecting biodiversity on its land and using 100% renewable electricity, Maison Telmont is committed to radically reducing its carbon footprint. I am proud to invest in it.”
Founded in 1912, Maison Telmont has preserved a family know-how passed down through four generations while adopting a resolutely modern and responsible approach. It is committed to protecting the biodiversity of its terroir by aiming for a 100% organic champagne and a sustainable production cycle. Since 2021, it has decided to eliminate packaging and gift boxes to reduce its carbon footprint. The company uses exclusively renewable electricity and has replaced its transparent bottles, made of non-recycled glass, with green bottles that are 100% recyclable, made from 85% recycled glass.
One of the Maison’s most significant decisions is the abandonment of air transport for its shipments. Since 2023, champagne shipments to the United States have been transported by the sailboats of the company Neoline, specialized in wind-powered maritime transport, thus significantly reducing CO2 emissions. “Leonardo DiCaprio’s investment in Maison Telmont is a tremendous message of support, encouraging us in the realization of our ambitious projects. We share the same convictions and the same commitment to environmental protection,” said Ludovic du Plessis, President of the Maison. The actor’s involvement in this project illustrates a growing trend: that of responsible investments, where prestige and tradition meet sustainable innovation to address today’s and tomorrow’s environmental challenges.
