Lavazza and Juliana Lima Vasconcellos transform coffee in a multisensory experience at Milan Design Week

At Palazzo del Senato, Source of Pleasure stimulates all the senses

In Italy, coffee is taken seriously. It is an integral part of the country's culture and, for this reason, must be celebrated properly. On the occasion of the Milano Design Week 2025, Lavazza has decided to transform the beverage into a sensory experience. Through a site-specific installation created in collaboration with Brazilian architect and designer Juliana Lima Vasconcellos, the brand explores the way we experience coffee. In the historic spaces of the Palazzo del Senato, the beating heart of the Porta Venezia Design District, a large structure with a diameter of eighteen meters will rise. Evoking an atmosphere of sacredness, the installation represents a contemporary temple dedicated to coffee, where guests can embark on an immersive journey engaging all the senses. Just like when we sip a cup of coffee and take a break from everyday life, time becomes suspended.

The year 2025 marks a special milestone for Lavazza. The brand that has revolutionized coffee culture is celebrating 130 years, and for this reason, it has decided to honor its history by exploring it from a new perspective: that of design. Through a powerful and refined aesthetic language, a carefully crafted balance between tradition and modernity, the installation by Lavazza and Vasconcellos draws inspiration from the familiar and enveloping colors of coffee to ignite a dialogue between form, light, and taste. The installation Source of Pleasure, on display from April 6 to 13, aims to redefine Italians' relationship with the beverage, a cornerstone of the country's culture. Source of Pleasure will demonstrate how everyday life, through design, can become extraordinary. The texture of coffee beans will be explored through tactile surfaces, the warm shades of espresso will be reflected through light plays, while sounds and aromas will transport visitors into a reality marked by an almost ritualistic peace, where time ceases to exist. Lavazza and Vasconcellos have chosen Palazzo del Senato precisely to emphasize the innovation of the work, placing it in a historic and magnificent architectural setting to initiate a completely new visual narrative where past and future meet in a warm embrace.
