Rankin is coming to Milan with an evolving exhibition

Photographer, video-maker, publisher, image-maker, author of hundreds of shots published in the most important international magazines and of more than 40 books, founder of cult magazines such as Dazed & Confused, AnOther, AnOther Man and Hunger. With his visionary and eclectic talent, Rankin has contributed to shaping the aesthetics of an era, leaving an indelible mark on the world of contemporary photography. His works have many facets and include portraits of stars such as Jude Law, Ewan McGregor, Blondie, Björk, Monica Bellucci or Robert Downey Jr., images taken for brands such as Diesel or Chanel, pop and more experimental pieces.

Across four months (from 18 October 2019 to 24 February 2020), different works, installations and stylistic approaches will be changed, offering a new perspective on Rankin's world. 

“Its often hard to explain who you are as an artist; I am a photographer, but it feels like nearly every time someone mentions me they define me in a different way – as a fashion photographer, a portrait photographer, a celebrity photographer...  I understand the impulse to compartmentalise, but I find that kind of labelling difficult. This evolving exhibition concept was designed, together with 29 ARTS IN PROGRESS, to showcase the connections between my different types of work, split into three categories (Portraiture, Art, Fashion). I wanted to be able to show that whether you are looking at a nude, a beauty image, a fashion shot or a famous face, there is an underlying relationship between my pictures.” 

The creative explains about the project and continues emphasizing the relationship of the exhibition with the city of Milan:

"In order not to turn out just as an abstract scenography but also a great exhibition for and about the city – the gallerists tell us – we decided to match the evolution of the exhibition with three distinctive events on the Milanese calendar such as the Photo Vogue Festival, the Fashion Film Festival and the Milan Fashion Week in February, thus creating an original opportunity for dialogue between the author and the cultural proposals of one of the capitals of design and fashion in Europe."

On November 15th and 16th, during Photo Vogue Festival, Rankin will create live portraits with the only original Polaroid Land camera still working outside the United States.
