'Barbie Girl' turns 20 and Aqua reunite
A tour is coming in 2017
September 13th, 2016
According to the Sun, the Aqua have planned a reunion for the twentieth anniversary of their debut single: Barbie Girl. The song, from their album Aquarium, has sold more than 8 million copies worldwide.
Catchy and engaging, this bubblegum-pop song gained notoriety also thanks to the Mattel's lawsuit that filed the record company for defamation, because in the song Barbie is described as a ''silly blonde".
The four components, Lene Nystrøm, René Dif, Søren Rasted and Claus Norreen, had left the band in 2001 but reunited in 2008 to publish a greatest hits album, and in 2011 released the album Megalomaniac. Now the group is ready to come back to celebrate the anniversary of their famous hit with a tour in Denmark slated for 2017. While waiting for the official confirmation, you can dig out your old cassette and pay a tribute to the '90s singing Barbie Girl out loud.
