The Open Sound Festival 2019 is about to debut in Matera
5 days of artistic performances and music between popular tradition and electronic sounds
August 6th, 2019
From August 28 to September 1, 2019, a wave of sounds will invade Matera. The city of Basilicata, nominated European Capital of Culture 2019, will become the set of the first Open Sound Festival, a festival that mixes electronics with ancient instruments of popular tradition. As the organizers say it is "an event never experienced before, a unique mix of street-carnival, folk festival, rave, art performances and contemporary music, where ancient instruments of millennia meet electronics and sound system, bells, electric guitars, bagpipes, dark-shear, subwoofer, screams, polyphonic songs".
The Israeli composer and multimedia artist who is also guest artistic director of Open Sound will close the event on September 1 with #Urla, a sort of itinerant "geographical musical score" inspired by the rituals of Lucanian culture that through a series of parallel processions of Lucanian sound artists, instrumental stations and theatrical actions will take the music through the streets of Matera.
All events are free, except for the "Cava del Sole" where it can be accessed with the Passport to Matera 2019.
