May 9th, 2018
The breathtaking location in the gardens of a 17th-century villa, artistic experimentation in sounds and images, an avant-garde philosophy that focuses on sustainability and ecology.
This is TERRAFORMA: the international music festival dedicated to artistic experimentation and sustainability, is approaching its fifth edition from 29 June to 1 July 2018 in the woods of Villa Arconati-FAR in Bollate (Milan). Produced by Threes in collaboration with the Augusto Rancilio Foundation, Terraforma starts from its manifesto, or from the belief that new dimensions can be created, innovating the concept of musical experience by emphasizing the relationship between event and impact, incubating moods and forms of sensibility durable through time. Today, the artistic direction of the festival announced the cosmic-themed line-up of DJs and musicians who will perform during the three days of the festival. The expected artists - including Jeff Mills, Lanark Artefax and Mohammad Reza Mortazavi - confirm the avant-garde and experimental vision that the festival has taken in the four previous editions, quickly becoming one of the most innovative music festivals in Europe.
The complete TERRAFORMA lineup
Leading the journey into the unknown between research and utopia, Terraforma calls upon one of the greatest explorers of life outside of our planet, through sound: Jeff Mills. The artist who takes Detroit's techno sound to another level, has built an enlightening career inspired by sci-fi fiction: he has created epochal films such as Fantastic Voyage, A trip to the Moon and Metropolis, he has signed a symphony dedicated to the celestial world, Lost In Space and also a radio program Outer Limits in collaboration with NASA. Immersed in the sci-fi imagery is also Lanark Artefax, Glasgow's electronic artist praised by Aphex Twin and Björk. Among the artists, there are the DJ and Japanese producer Powder, the Canadian house and jungle DJ, PLO Man, Byetone ambassador of the Berliner mood and compatriot Konrad Sprenger. To complete the line up of international artists Paquita Gordon and Rabih Beaini, the latter opening Sunday with the "burdensome" task of awakening the right mood, the souls of the night. Always on Sunday, the set of Vladimir Ivkovic and Batu embodies the latest innovative wave of Bristol music.
Among the Italian artists there will be the talent of Valentino Mora, the percussionist and producer of "sustainable" electronic music based in Berlin Daniele De Santis (in art Grün), and Marco Shuttle with his cinematic and organic techno "paintings", which tend to abstract and invite to introspection. Finally, the tattoo artist Mino Luchena, who with his 90s dj set between gabber and old school accompanied Lorenzo Senni's Warp tour; finally the collective Vipra da Torpignattara, Rome, which crosses ghetto music and cyberpunk narcolepsy at 90bpm.
Among the artists already announced in the program, the human-machine interaction performance by Plaid & Felix's Machines inside the labyrinth, which combines natural amplification and synchronized audio processing with mesmerizing paths of light and movement; Iranian percussionist Mohammad Reza Mortazavi, defined as "the fastest fingers in the world", and the dj and producer Nkisi, spokeswoman for the collective NON. There will also be the Imaginary Softwoods project by John Elliott of Emeralds, founder of Spectrum Spools, the ethnomusicologist Florian Meyer, aka DON'T DJ. Who played of a highly acclaimed surprise closing set in the last edition, Donato Dozzy confirmed once again this year as one of the undisputed protagonists of Terraforma, thanks to its unique vision of electronic music, which unfolds in a different but always exciting way at each edition of the festival.

Events, talks and arts
Terraforma continues the process of architectural and botanic requalification of the Villa Arconati wood by pruning trees, securing green areas and creating reusable structures for the architectural park. One of the attractions of this year's festival will be the labyrinth, built on the original model found by some planimetric engravings of the Villa of Marc'Antonio Dal Re dating back to 1743. The labyrinth will host artistic performances, in particular, that of Plaid with Felix's Machines between sounds, lights and mechanical movements.
Terraforma has collaborated with the traveling BUKA club on a temporary planetarium in which to present the site-specific sound installation by Caterina Barbieri, an accredited producer and composer of electroacoustic music with synthesizers and modular sequencers. In addition to his performance at the festival, percussionist Mohammad Reza Mortazavi will conduct a workshop on the tombak instrument. The kids area is reconfirmed, especially dedicated to children, with sustainable creative and artistic activities in collaboration with AfterSchool.
