Aaaah Paris. The City of Light, love, and refined gastronomy. But even though you can find some of the best restaurants in France here, many agree that nothing beats a good baguette/camembert combo enjoyed on the banks of the Seine. And for good reason, the walls of Paris house bakeries whose mere scent already makes many people's mouths water. In the Disney movie "Ratatouille," Chef Colette teaches us that a good loaf of bread can be judged by the sound of its crust, but in real life, things are a little more complicated. Every year, the city of Paris and the Syndicate of Bakers of Greater Paris come together to indulge their taste buds and high expectations of French expertise to elect the best traditional baguette in the capital. And for this 32nd edition, a bakery in the 10th arrondissement takes the prize.
After the victory of the bakery Utopie in the 11th arrondissement last year, in 2025, it's a neighboring bakery that receives the title of Paris’s best traditional baguette: La Parisienne, located on Rue du Faubourg-Poissonnière in the 10th arrondissement, run by Mickaël Reydellet. Indeed, the best baguette in the whole capital can be found on a street not far from the Grand Rex, surrounded by popular restaurants, bars, and landmarks like Libertino or the Musée Grévin. But it’s not enough to be well-located to earn the title of Paris's best baguette; the conditions are actually numerous and very specific. Each baguette must weigh between 250 and 270 g, measure between 50 and 55 cm, and meet a strict salt threshold of 1.4 g per 100 g exactly. Before the verdict is announced, the jury, chaired by Nicolas Bonnet Oulaldj, deputy mayor in charge of craftsmanship, of course also inspects the baguettes in every possible way, from taste and baking to texture, alveolage, and overall appearance.
In addition to proudly bearing the title of the best traditional baguette in Paris, La Parisienne bakery also receives €4,000, as well as the honor of becoming the official supplier of the Élysée for one year, and will be presented with the award by Anne Hidalgo on May 7, during the celebration of the Bread Festival. What a success for Mikaël Reydellet, who had already won the best baguette award in 2016 and was recently awarded the best pastry prize, thanks notably to his pastry chef Mathieu Lévêque. While only one winner is named, the rest of the laureates are also noteworthy. Among the top five competitors are Aux Délices du Palais in the 14th, Boulangerie Guyot Ferreira in the 5th, Aux Délices de Glacière (13th), and La Petite Alsacienne, an institution in the 14th. Four Paris residents, selected by lottery, also had the chance to spend an entire afternoon tasting the 187 baguettes in competition. While that might seem like a lot of food for few mouths, rest assured, the unused baguettes were donated to the association La Chorba, which works against hunger and social exclusion.
