The 5 moments from the fourth night of Sanremo 2025 that you may have missed

The 5 moments from the fourth night of Sanremo 2025 that you may have missed Arriving at the night of covers, the festival returns to form

Maybe it was the cover performances, maybe it was the energy of Geppi Cucciari and Mahmood, or maybe Carlo Conti read the online comments about the previous three nights, but last night the Sanremo Festival went back to "Sanremo-ing", to quote one of the many memes circulating online. The absence of promotional plugs for yet another Rai series and the "public service announcements" was pleasantly noticeable, thanks also to the rather sharp humor of Geppi Cucciari, who gave us some gems like «Il Volo are proof that they can sing anything. And unfortunately, they do» or the brilliant jabs she fired in all directions. Even Benigni, whom everyone feared would read yet another passage from Dante, instead made a series of jokes that sent Carlo Conti into a brief but visibly panicked moment. Another highlight of the evening was the technical difficulties, a godsend for those who follow Sanremo more for its mishaps than the actual show. These included the scene of Mahmood dodging a sound technician to greet the competing artists and the triple performance of Bresh, during which a technician dove behind Cristiano De André’s chair, fiddling with wires and microphones. However, the happy ending came with the well-deserved victory of Giorgia and Annalisa, whose duet earned a standing ovation at the Ariston, just like the beautiful one by Rocco Hunt and Clementino.

Here are the 5 moments from the fourth night of Sanremo 2025 that you might have missed.

1. Lucio Corsi and Topo Gigio

Topo Gigio is not just a children's character; in fact, his first TV duet was the legendary one with Raffaella Carrà, who sang while lying on a silver moon. Thanks to his Pierrot-inspired outfit, the sweetness of the song, and wonderful moments like the mini-bouquet Conti handed to the puppet and the selfie with Mahmood, Lucio Corsi's performance was something delicate and surreal. But also, as someone wrote online, one of the highest artistic moments Italy has seen since its unification.

2. That frame from Clara and Il Volo’s performance

Gianluca from Il Volo was emotional last night. Besides the fleeting «I adore you» whispered to Geppi Cucciari before leaving the stage, the trio’s member also gifted us a fantastic meme during his performance. While Clara was singing and turned toward the other two Il Volo members, Gianluca appeared behind her in the shot, staring at something unknown with a smug half-smile. Probably an insignificant moment – but his expression was so priceless that the frame immediately went viral. At some point, someone even photoshopped Stash from The Kolors’ face onto the real singer’s. And so, the first meme of the night was born.

3. Achille Lauro and Elodie’s unexpected moment

After a magnificent performance, certainly more deserving of the Top 3 than Bella Stronza by Fedez and Marco Masini, Achille Lauro decided to stay on stage and attempted to sing Ancora with the help of the audience and orchestra, dedicating it to Elodie. The beauty of the moment, however, was the authentic chemistry between the two on stage, especially while singing Folle Città by Bertè, making the dedication a delightfully spontaneous unscripted moment.

4. Mahmood styles Carlo Conti

After a show by Mahmood that basically turned into the Super Bowl halftime show for the fashion crowd in this country, the singer started joking around with Carlo Conti. At one point, he asked him to wear his sparkling sunglasses, which Conti did, finally loosening up a bit. After attempting to learn the Tuta Gold choreography and accidentally getting a light knock on the nose from Mahmood, the singer took it a step further, ran backstage, and put one of his long jackets on the host (was it Margiela? Balenciaga? Alainpaul?) to present the next duet. Strangely enough, Conti didn’t look half bad in trendy clothes.

5. «You’re mostly a father»

A theory we could put forward about this Sanremo is that the show's direction reads online reactions and adjusts accordingly each night. And it seems that Geppi Cucciari was referring precisely to Conti's obsession with emphasizing the parental status of the competing artists when she told him: «You’re a great host, an artist, but mostly a father.» Just one of the many witty jabs Geppi allowed herself last night, reminding us that a Festival devoid of irony has the same effect as a non-alcoholic cocktail.
