The Colour of 2025 according to Pantone will be ‘Mocha Mousse’. After all, who doesn't like chocolate?

Pantone has unveiled the Color of the Year 2025: Mocha Mousse. A rich shade inspired by milk chocolate, chosen for its ability to resonate across multiple sensory levels, evoking not just a visual attraction but also associations with taste, smell, and touch. More than just a color, Mocha Mousse represents the comfort, elegance, and warmth that we might all need next year. Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, told WWD that Mocha Mousse is a shade «very inviting, tempting you to taste and touch». Mocha Mousse demonstrates how perceptions of brown have evolved over the years: historically, shades of brown were seen as “earthy” and rooted in nature, humble and almost basic. Over time, however, brown has taken on an increasingly opulent and aspirational connotation – the color of leather and chocolate, the color of coffee, furs, and fine woods. Mocha Mousse is not just a color tied to sight but encapsulates an entire range of sensory experiences – in fact, its presentation highlights the multi-sensory nature of modern luxury experiences.

According to Eiseman, the color also evokes sensations of pleasure that go beyond sight since «in fashion, the entire brown family has taken on a very elegant and aspirational quality».  One of the most distinctive features of Mocha Mousse is its versatility. While it evokes warmth and comfort, the color is not limited to a specific use or aesthetic. It pairs well with a variety of other shades, even in unexpected combinations like bright pink. The possibilities expand when considering that brown, as the color of wood, leather, and even certain minerals and metals, is also one of the staples of interior design. In the beauty and makeup world, there has been a notable increase in brands offering foundations or cosmetic products tailored to diverse skin tones that often feature hues and textures aligning perfectly with Mocha Mousse. We could perhaps say that the choice of Mocha Mousse reflects a cultural yearning for moments of indulgence, a response to what Eiseman describes as an «exhausting year». In a world full of chaos and uncertainties, this color offers a sense of calm and luxury, an invitation to savor the simple pleasures of life.
