Anna Delvey being part of Dancing With The Stars is a political matter Even though she has been detained for immigration issues, the fake hairess will debut on the small screen tonight

Anna Delvey continues to make headlines, and once again, not in a positive way. After making her debut on the runway during New York Fashion Week, the luxury scammer is now climbing further toward fame as part of the cast of the new season of Dancing With The Stars (the American version of Ballando con le Stelle). The news caused a stir on social media, as the German scam artist is technically still under house arrest, evidenced by the ankle bracelet paired with her dance shoes. The fake European heiress was arrested and detained in 2017 for tax fraud and grand theft, before being released under house arrest in 2022. The crux of the issue lies in the fact that ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) — the federal agency responsible for immigration and borders — was supposed to deport Delvey after her release due to her alien status in the United States. But according to the scam master herself, ICE has approved her participation in the reality show, without any hindrance. This has sparked mixed reactions from the public, with some netizens hailing her as an “icon of the American dream” and an enemy of the institutions. However, others have pointed out that ICE has arrested, detained, and deported millions of individuals — sometimes in very violent ways. Even actress Whoopi Goldberg addressed it during her talk show, calling out the injustice of what seems like preferential treatment. Goldberg hinted that Anna Delvey was “spared” by one of the strictest justice systems because, unlike many other immigrants, her skin color is lighter.

Delvey had been released before 2021, on the condition that she leave the United States. But that did not happen, as the fake heiress stayed and was then arrested after six weeks by immigration authorities for overstaying her visa. For this reason, the Russian-German citizen is now serving house arrest. From the court records, it seems that Delvey has applied for political asylum, although the reason for the request is unknown, it is speculated that it might be related to her Russian citizenship. Nonetheless, netizens are unable to empathize with the ex-convict, especially regarding ICE's role in this matter. In recent years, the government agency has been under scrutiny for the so-called “concentration camps” at the U.S.-Mexico border, where thousands of Mexican children have been detained for long periods; some of these children have also lost their lives due to malnutrition and the dire conditions they are subjected to. Many believe that this is not directly Anna's fault, but rather that she was simply clever enough to get the better side of the deal. Moreover, Delvey’s moral stance on the matter is still unknown, but her interview with American comedian Ziwe will be released this afternoon, possibly shedding new light on the debate. From the trailer, it seems that the New York socialite has no remorse for her actions — past, present, or future — but it’s too soon to form an opinion. A large press campaign is in full swing ahead of the premiere of the new season of Dancing with the Stars tonight, where it is hoped that after all this uproar, the sparkly ankle bracelet will bring Delvey some luck — as the saying goes, “break a leg”.
