Paris transport is back to normal after the Olympic wave Back to their former price and mobility

Parisian wallets can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Starting from Monday, September 9th, public transport fares will return to normal, that is, to the prices before the Olympic Games. The RATP announced on its website that the single ticket, which was sold for €4 during the Games, will go back to €2.15. The book of 10 tickets, which had risen to €32 this summer, will return to its initial price of €17.35, while the Orlybus and Roissybus, whose fares had been raised to €16, will again cost €10.30 and €14.50 respectively. Additionally, it will once again be possible to purchase weekly, daily, and Visite Navigo passes directly at stations or via the Bonjour RATP app, an option that had been suspended due to the Games since July 20.

As a reminder, Valérie Pécresse, the president of the region and Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM), had implemented these “special Olympic” fares to discourage locals and tourists from using public transport in order to avoid congestion at ticket counters during the sports events. This decision caused an uproar, particularly online, where many memes mocking the politician appeared. In response to the criticism, the elected official stated that Parisians “should subscribe to Liberté+, the online post-payment service”, to pay “at the best rate, €1.73, the following month.”

Moreover, the Champs-Elysées-Clémenceau station (lines 1 and 13), which was repeatedly closed between July 20 and September 8, will fully reopen on Monday, September 9th. The Concorde (lines 1 and 8, stop not marked on line 12) and Tuileries (line 1) stations will also be accessible again starting Monday, September 9th. Next Monday also marks the closing of the Paralympic Games. With the end of summer, it seems that Paris is gradually returning to normal, though potential shifts due to the country's unstable political situation cannot be ruled out.
