The ratings of Italians on the first night of Sanremo 2024

The 2024 edition of Sanremo started yesterday and for the first time in its history, all contestants performed during the first evening: whether you like it or not, Amadeus has made a substantial change to the format. The last singer in the competition, namely Il Tre, presented his song on stage at 1:46 AM on Wednesday, February 7, concluding the usual lineup consisting of 30 artists. Even in this edition, artists and guests managed to carve out a fundamental space to communicate political messages, such as Dargen D’Amico. The rapper and songwriter, in a suit covered in plush toys, concluded his track High Wave with a reference to what is happening in the Gaza Strip «In the Mediterranean Sea at this moment there are children under bombs, without water, without food. At this moment our silence is complicity. History, God, do not accept silent scenes. Fire cease!».

The opening night of the Italian Song Festival was a success: the audience share reached 65.1%, for a total of 10,561,000 viewers. The peak was achieved thanks to the performance of BigMama (70.1%), who in an interview published a few days ago on nss magazine had stated: «For me, it has always been essential to believe in things. It may seem like a cliché, but the reality is that when you wake up every morning with a fixed goal, and you pursue it with consistency for 23 years, eventually you see the results. In short, everything is different, but at the same time, nothing has changed». But the diverse Italian audience was intrigued by many other aspects. Among the data available the day after Sanremo, the most incredible concerns the Neapolitan rapper Geolier, who presented the track I P’ ME, TU P’ TE. The reel published on the official Instagram profile of the festival totaled more than 10 million views, bringing 46,000 new followers to the artist: followed by Clara with 35,000 new followers and Annalisa with 15,000.

We cannot state with certainty that the data related to Geolier is synonymous with a general appreciation of rap by the Sanremo audience; it would be more accurate to talk about interest and curiosity from viewers towards a musical genre that has only recently become a stable presence in Sanremo a few editions ago. Finally, the charismatic and obviously iconic presence of Loredana Bertè led about 10,000 Italians to search for her age on Google. The second night of the festival is scheduled for tonight and considering what happened during the first, we can only be optimistic about what will happen in the competition.
