What's happening at X? After the opening of judicial investigations by the EU, the app goes haywire

In the last few hours, thousands of users have encountered technical issues on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, purchased by entrepreneur and Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, in 2022. From the disappearance of posts to the unusual welcome graphic, “Welcome to X”, the social media is preventing the connection for a large number of profiles worldwide - according to Downdetector.com, more than 47,000 in the United States alone - including users of the paid version, X Pro. While BBC, the first media outlet to share the news of the malfunction, has asked X executives for comments but has not yet received a response, the hashtag #TwitterDown has appeared among the trending topics of the moment on the platform. Just a few days ago, Threads, Meta's app competing with X, was launched in Europe, and the European Union has started paying closer attention to any violations by Musk's platform regarding the fight against illegal content and misinformation.

After months of hindrances and obstacles, both from Meta's competition and from investors and advertisers, Musk's platform concludes the year with a malfunction that could [jeopardize the app's future](https://www.nssmag.com/it/lifestyle/34067/musk-ammette-x-fallire). Following the launch of Threads in Europe just last week, it's possible that X users may lose interest in the social media and directly migrate to the new release from Zuckerberg's company. At the same time, this is a sensitive moment for X as the EU has recently announced that it is evaluating the platform's activities. Thierry Breton, the Digital Commissioner of the Union, declared three days ago the opening of a formal infringement procedure against the social media. In the post, Breton claims that the Union is investigating the suspicion of violating obligations to combat illegal content and misinformation, violating transparency obligations, and deceptive design of the user interface. All the recent developments regarding X could suggest the [imminent failure of the platform](https://www.nssmag.com/it/lifestyle/34067/musk-ammette-x-fallire), confirming the concerns expressed by its owner just a few months after the acquisition.
