Traveling has always been an adventure for the senses, and for many Italians, the ideal destination is determined by the promise of unique culinary experiences. According to a study conducted by Skyscanner in August 2023, 49% of Italians would consider traveling to a specific destination just to savor the delights of a particular restaurant, and 24% have already turned this desire into reality. Skyscanner's report Travel Trends: Redefining the value of travel through experience highlighted a growing phenomenon called "Budget Gourmets," emphasizing the importance of gastronomy in the travels of Italians. Unlike the English, only 11% of whom plan their trips based on a specific restaurant, 24% of Italians already do so, while 49% would be excited to do it.

Stefano Maglietta, Travel Insights Expert at Skyscanner, emphasized that the good news for food enthusiasts is that more and more locations offer high-quality restaurants at affordable prices. To guide food enthusiasts in the search for low-cost gastronomic experiences, Skyscanner suggested 5 must-visit destinations.

1. Osaka, Japan

With an impressive 283% increase in searches, Osaka is one of the emerging destinations among Italian travelers in 2024. Known as "the kitchen of Japan," Osaka offers 93 starred restaurants, of which 80 are affordable, making the gastronomic experience a reachable dream.

2. Bologna, Italy

Bologna, the capital of Emilia-Romagna, not only captivates with its colors and architecture but is also a mecca for food lovers. Numerous historical addresses (our favorite is Trattoria Da Vito where Guccini used to eat and play) but also many surprises like the courtyard of Cantinella or the musical aperitif in the Garden of Arts in the city center. A historic address is Trattoria di Amerigo located in the hills of Bologna.

3. Singapore

With 55 starred restaurants and 79 Bib Gourmand, Singapore is a dream come true for noodle lovers. Among the best addresses reported by Skyscanner, there is a Michelin-starred venue, Hill Street Tai Hwa Noodle, which offers complete meals for less than 9 euros, allowing enthusiasts to enjoy authentic delicacies at reasonable prices.

4. London, United Kingdom

Contrary to common perception, London hosts over 70 starred restaurants, two of which stand out for offering high-quality cuisine at affordable costs. Among the most frequented hot spots according to Skyscanner is Barrafina in Soho, serving Spanish tapas for €15, while The Coach in Marlow, about 50 km from London, offers a starred experience for around 30 euros.

5. Hanoi, Vietnam

Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, ranks sixth on the list of the most popular destinations for Italian travelers in the coming year, with a 291% increase in searches. At the Tầm Vị restaurant, you can enjoy typical dishes of Northern Vietnamese cuisine for only 30 euros, offering an authentic culinary experience without emptying your wallet.
