It's not easy to come across an art collection as remarkable as that of the Hermès family. The credit for this largely goes to Hubert Guerrand-Hermès, one of the many descendants of Thierry Hermès, who passed away in 2016. He was able to assemble a collection of art with sublime taste, seamlessly blending classical and contemporary art pieces. Mario Tavella, President of Sotheby's France and Chairman of Sotheby's Europe, emphasized Hubert's taste, as reported by WWD: «Guerrand-Hermès refined his eye for collecting from a young age when his mother would send him and his twin brother, Xavier, to the Saint-Ouen flea market, rewarding them with a sum of money equal to the estimated value of what they found.»

According to the most recent estimates, the collection's value would range between 10 and 15 million euros. Although the collection primarily comprises furniture pieces, including a gilded and inlaid chair once owned by Marie Antoinette's Versailles residence, Hubert skillfully enriched it with incredible art pieces signed by Pablo Picasso, Juan Miró, and contemporaries like Antony Gormley and Anish Kapoor. Hubert's passion for contemporary art was also highlighted by the art dealer Thaddeus Ropac, who pointed out that he loved participating in dinners with artists of the caliber of Anselm Kiefer. Before being auctioned, the collection will be exhibited in Hubert Guerrand-Hermès' former Parisian residence near the Musée d'Orsay from December 9th to 13th.
