An immersive itinerary explores the history of Neapolitan sound, from Pino Daniele to Nu Genea
October 3rd, 2023
Discovering a city also means listening to its sound, whether it be the lapping of the waves of the sea or the singer-songwriters' songs that fill the streets of the city centre. On the weekend of 21 and 22 October, the Newpolitan Sound Tour will explore exactly this aspect in a musical itinerary created to immersively narrate all the artistic influences of Naples. From Canzone Napoletana to contemporary composers, passing through the 70s Neapolitan Power movement marked by the unmistakable timbre of James Senese and Pino Daniele, the tour explores the modern-day Naples of Nu Genea, Roberto De Simone, and Almamegretta, presenting in a completely new way the evolution of a city that has never stopped shining.
Through a series of talks and forays through the streets and record shops that still contribute to enhancing Naples' artistic past and future, the Newpolitan Sound Tour offers an exclusive glimpse into the history of the capital thanks to the testimonies of those who experienced the sound of Naples of change first-hand. In collaboration with J'Adore Napoli, nss magazine's project to promote the territory and Neapolitan culture, the unprecedented Newpolitan Sound Tour takes a dive into Naples' past, but not only.
Four talks will recount the history and most interesting anecdotes of the Neapolitan music scene, past and contemporary, in relation also to the changes the city is experiencing: Hyperpop, from internet with love will reveal the most interesting behind-the-scenes of the new Neapolitan scene and the online movement led by artists such as Thru Collected, Talpah and Aaron Rumore; 41° Parallelo, storia del rap in città will explore the history of hip hop in Naples, its promoters and its strong link with Neapolitan Power; Obscurities and rarities will analyse the disappearance and rebirth of record shops in the city centre and their role in the preservation of the city's musical culture; Made in Naples, new geographies of Neapolitan clubbing will instead trace the history of Naples' dancefloors, from the reopening of historic venues to the arrival of new protagonists on the scene. The talks are organised by TUM, Festival del Turismo Musicale and J'Adore Napoli, moderated by nss magazine and DLSO.
