In Hypermaremma, Rune by Parasite 2.0 combines nomadic architecture with the beauty of the Maremma.
An experience between local tradition and contemporary visions along the enchanted beaches of Maremma
August 2nd, 2023
This year, on the occasion of Hypermaremma 2023, the RUNE project, conceived and realized by the art collective Parasite 2.0, enlivens the Maremma coast with a series of stimulating art installations. Fresh from their recent triumph at the recently opened 18th Architecture Biennale, their goal was to explore and reinterpret the eternal dance between man and nature, offering a fresh perspective on the local tradition of seasonal constructions.
The beaches of the Maremma, with their wild and uncontaminated beauty, undergo a seasonal transformation. Every summer, the beaches are filled with ephemeral and spontaneous structures created by locals and visitors to protect themselves from the sun. These temporary artifacts, though fleeting, leave a lasting mark on the landscape, transforming the land year after year. Parasite 2.0's RUNE project embodies this tradition of spontaneous architecture.
Using wooden logs found on the beach of Tagliata in Ansedonia, enriched with aluminum castings made from recycled cans collected on the shore, the art collective created an unusual hut out of time. This work stimulates a reflection on nomadic architecture rethought in contemporary times and invites the community to enter into a dialogue with its surroundings. The works of Parasite 2.0, far beyond a mere aesthetic expression, merge with the landscape and become an integral part of the summer topography. Throughout the summer, the hut will come alive with a series of artistic performances, continuing the fruitful dialogue between the historical traditions of the Maremma and contemporary visions and activities.
