Bottega Veneta and Air Afrique collaborated on a cultural magazine
Uno spazio di condivisione per le arti africane
June 23rd, 2023
Air Afrique, the new magazine launched by Bottega Veneta, takes its name from the pan-African airline that co-created the project. In operation from 1961 to 2002, already during its early years the company was committed to sharing and supporting African art and culture, an initiative reflected in this collaboration with Bottega Veneta. The magazine was conceived by a Parisian collective of young artists, and was presented today at the Centre Pompidou.
Promoting Afro-diasporic art and conversations, Air Afrique is by no means a simple cultural magazine; as Lamine Diaoune, one of the minds behind the project, pointed out, it serves to preserve «this heritage, to bring Air Afrique back into the cultural debate and to treasure its example of cultural engagement.» For the inauguration of the magazine, Bottega Veneta created a collection of exclusive blankets in fine wool and shearling from the Bottega Veneta archives, designed by one of Matthieu Blazy's designers, the Franco-Sudanese designer Abdel El Tayeb.
