Zayn Malik to launch a collection with Versace
Donatella Versace plans to attract younger customers
October 12th, 2016
Zayn Malik and Donatella Versace are fashion's new couple.
The former One Direction member and the blonde designer will work together for Zayn x Versus, a capsule collection of men's and women's clothing that will be available in stores and online starting from May.
The first time the two met was a few years ago, but only later, while watching the twenty-three-year-old singer with his girlfriend Gigi Hadid, Mrs Versace reckoned the potential of a collaboration with him and started to think he was the right person for Versus.
In an interview with The New York Times the designer said: "I met him again when he started to date Gigi, who I work with all the time. He impressed me very much – he was so mature, so thoughtful, treated her like such a gentleman. They are very nice young people, a lovely couple, in fact. And then he told me how much he loved fashion. It was then I knew he was the right face for what I had in mind."
Gigi's boyfriend, for his part, said that he always wanted to design clothes and he's thrilled to do so for Versus and Donatella, whom he does love and admire.
Orphan of Anthony Vaccarello who moved to Yves Saint Laurent, fashion brand Versus, Versace's family most rock and roll soul, thanks to Zayn, to his popularity and his 35 millions Twitter and Instagram followers, will reach a new slice of market, a young generation that, as stated by the same Donatella, otherwise she couldn't have conquered.
If Malik-Versace is today's breaking news, the pop star's love for the Italian fashion house runs deeper.
Remember a few weeks ago, during London Fashion Week, who sat in Versus' front row next to his beautiful model girlfriend? Obviously Zayn. And who created the robotic arm worn by the guy at the Met Gala in May? Versace!
If, as expected, this collaboration will be a success it could set a new beginning and be the first of a series of guest stars, musicians and rockers as designers.
