Pharrell Williams presents Hu
His humanitarian project in collaboration with adidas
September 26th, 2016
We all love sneakers, even more if they share and send messages of solidarity and tolerance. That's why Pharrell Williams launched Hu (short for Human), a new fashion project in collaboration with adidas. It's not just an ordinary collaboration brand-musician, but it's a real project which aims at breaking down the racial and cultural barriers between people.
Hu was introduced last July with a limited-edition of adidas NMD which shortly conquered media and sneakers lovers, thanks to a catchy design, a bright colour and a very particular lacing system that made them the hottest sneakers of the moment in no time. The project includes a 14-item collection and 5 shoe models (with different colours and the words Humand Race).
“Hu is about the recognition and celebration of different colours, spirituality and cultures” the rapper told WWD.
The project is supported by an online campaign with MHA Nation as protagonist, which is the union of three North American tribes Mandan, Hidatsa e Arikara. Williams visited the MHA Nation community last June, a strong experience which taught him more about their traditions and cultural legacy, but also about the challenges they have to face.
The online campaign also includes a short documentary and will be available on both adidas and Pharrell Williams' digital and social channels. The collection will be available on Thursday at adidas concept stores in Paris and Berlin, on the brand's official website and at London, New York and Tokyo Billionaire Boys Club stores.
