Cinema in men's fashion
From runway to moodboard
July 18th, 2016
Cinema and fashion have a reciprocal, symbiotic, visceral connection.
One finds art finds energy, nourishment, ispiration in the other, they contaminate us and each other and transforming characters seen on the screen into runway collections.
No wonder that in recent years Thom Browne has drawn his inspiration from the most famous horror films, Prada from the sci-fi cult Gattaca, Lemaire from the French New Wave, Gosha Rubchinskiy from Pasolini and Alessandro Michele for Gucci from Wes Anderson's work.
Marlon Brando’s leather jacket in The Wild One, James Dean’s jeans and white t-shirt, Hitchcock and his male protagonists in elegant tailored suits, Keanu Reeves’ long leather trench in Matrix, Bogart’s trench coat in Casablanca or Ryan Gosling’s silver bomber evoke stories, characters and feelings.
