5 reasons why everyone loves Gucci Men's Cruise 2017
Brief analysis of its lookbook
May 18th, 2016
A few days ago the new Gucci Men's Cruise 2017 menswear collection has been unveiled. And the Web has gone immediately crazy. Thanks to Alessandro Michele's talent, adding a catchy lookbook, even this latest collection by the storied Italian House has gained the public approval.
It's a 87-look collection inspired by everything that concerns the English world, from Savile Row to punk kids, typical schoolboy uniforms and dandies. Every piece was designed with excellent care, whether it's an embroidery on a silk bomber or an acid-washed jeans. Every single item seems to have its own story, its own identity, but gains a new value every time it matches with other pieces, for multiple, maybe infinite, exclusive combinations.
Maybe this is the key to Alessandro Michele's success, his ability to match very different garments, distant worlds in a single inspiring visual space. But maybe that's not all.
We tried to discover what lies beneath the excitement generated by this latest men's wear collection and the result is below:
#1 Variety of styles
"The men’s wardrobe is like a ritual and I am fascinated by it and its codes. The codes are not to be cancelled, they have to be reinvented and repositioned in a different fresco”. So Alessandro Michele has spoken to GQ about his Cruise 2017 menswear. In fact, the strong point of the collection is its variety of styles, which fluctuates from very elegant suits to punk chiodo, from skinhead boots to preppy sweaters.
#2 Genderless
Mixing styles, but also masculine and feminine. It's not surprising that Gucci doesn't strictly separate female from male codes, and even this collection is not an exception. Floral prints and pink clothes make their appearance in a fearless way, gaining even more the public approval.
#3 “Gucci-ness”
The collection has all the style marks which characterise the new brand's life: embroidered animals, floral prints, furry loafers, Seventies sunglasses, etc... But, above all, the same “hype” which makes the vintage-like pieces with some newer ones a successful combination.
#4 Tumblr-like
It's true that this collection is the apotheosis of Gucci's style, but it also seems to look like a mix of the coolest trends of the moment, in particular on the Web. So, we can see some hoodies, chokers, jeans, streetwear pieces and pseudo-ugly t-shirts (I predict that the white one with the House logo will become very popular) appear in the looks.
#5 Lookbook
Never understimate the lookbook and the advertising campaign of a brand. If the Cruise 2017 collection has become so popular it's partly due to its lookbook, shot by English photographer Nick Waplington at Hilles House, the Blow clan's residence – yes, that of Isabella's. In fact, the pictures are highly viral, “rebloggable” and efficient.
