Demna Gvasalia launches Balenciaga first Men's collection
Next June in Paris
April 21st, 2016
Not content with his already numerous professional commitments – Vetements and Balenciaga woman – Demna Gvasalia has decided to embark on a new adventure. Starting from next June, the designer will present in Paris his Balenciaga Men's wear collection – the first male line of the brand since 1999.
The decision comes across as anachronistic, in a historical period in which many brands are gradually removing gender divisions on the catwalk, unifying men and women’s shows and presenting collections increasingly "genderless".
Last February, Demna himself had adopted this policy for Vetements, to the point that his brother Guram, CEO of the brand, stated: “Showing men’s and women’s at the same time connects us to real life. Today, men wear womenswear and women dress in men’s clothes. Gender is not a given fact anymore; a person has the right to choose one”.
How will the most subversive designer of our time manage to reinterpret the male wardrobe for a storied House such as Balenciaga?
Rendez-vous next June in Paris to find out.
