Hiring musicians – instead of models – for advertising campaigns seems to be the new key to success in the fashion system. If Saint Laurent turned the rock stars Hedi Slimane selects every season into its trade-mark, for SS16 Dior Homme has done no less.
Kris Van Assche chose Oliver Sim, bass player and co-vocalist of the XX, to face the Summer campaign of the brand. In the black and white shot, realized by Belgian photographer Willy Vanderperre, the musician looks at ease while wearing a dark jacket decorated with silver zips and a black shirt.
The other protagonists of the series are French actor Alain-Fabien Delon, Dutch artist Rinus Van de Velde and Danish model Victor Nylander, at his fifth campaign for the brand.
“We wanted to create the idea of a Dior Homme world that has a dialogue with these men” Van Assche told WWD. For next season the brand seems to bet on artistic talent instead of mere beauty.
Are artists the models of the future?
