Slam Jam celebrates its 25th anniversary with "Hot Fire"
Interview with Misha Hollenbach & Cali Thornhill Dewitt
November 12th, 2015
To celebrate its first 25 years of activity, Slam Jam invited the two artists Misha Hollenbach and Cali Thornhill Dewitt to present their latest project – “Hot Fire” – at its Milan store in the Navigli district. During the party we had a chat with them, to know what’s behind their “charred” art project.
#1 Cali: You met Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain in the 90s, as well as their daughter Frances Bean. How did these figures influence your career and your music taste?
I don’t think they actually did. We were just just friends, we were on the same level. I met them before they became famous and we enjoyed spending time together.
#2 Cali: You're an eclectic artist. Which kind of art do you feel most at ease with?
I feel at ease with every kind of art. But if I have to choose one, I would say fine arts. I’m interested in everything that concerns art: from sculpture to the way a menu at the restaurant is written. For me art is everything that involves an easy and honest expression.
#3 Both: What’s behind your latest project for Slam Jam?
Misha: Me and Cali made this newspaper together, then Luca Benini (Slam Jam’s founder) came to my house in Paris and really liked it, so he proposed me to expose it in his Milan’s store.
#4 Both: Why did you choose to literally burn everything?
Misha: This was actually up to Cali. It represents the fire of being alive.
#5 Both: What’s next for you after this Milan experience?
We’re having another show in Milan in two weeks, at Plus Design. Italy loves us!
