Saint Laurent Ad banned for showing a too-skinny model
Once again a fashion campaign collide with common ethics
June 4th, 2015
Only one month after the scandal which involved Italian brand Miu Miu, accused of spreading the image of an underage girl in a too-sensual attitude through its FW15 campaign (nevermind the model was actually 22 year-old actress Mia Goth, the star of Lars Von Trier’s Nymphomaniac) this time is Saint Laurent’s turn. Historic French Maison leaded by Hedi Slimane has seen its SS15 campaign portraying 18 year-old Dutch model Kiki Willems censored because the girl in it appeared too skinny.
The image, seen on Elle Uk, has been accused of showing an unhealthy person, definitely under the standards recognised by the United Kingdom.
Once again fashion and ethics collide involving very well-known brands.
Art – and in this specific case fashion photography – can still grant itself the luxury of freedom of expression?
