There's no magic or special ability at all in customizing an already existing pair of sneakers ... But if the simple "customizing" turns into creating a true piece of art, then yes, a special sensitivity and a meticulous attention to details are necessary requirements for a perfect execution.
Mark Ong, better known as SBTG, is a rare example of artist who trained for long time his eyes for this sort of things. After spending most of his life reaching the top of his customizing technique, today more mature and more aware, he has collaborated with Hypebeast the reworking of two iconic models of sneakers, really to die for for every real sneaker-head.
The first project starts from a basic Nike Air Huarache, modified by raising the military-inspired universe. A well balanced mix of camouflage and olive green gives the sneaker that contemporary taste that we like so much.
While the second project for hypebeast, SBTG's attention turns toward the iconic Nike Air Force 1, also reworked using his "AWOL Camo" motif. Starting with a white base, Mark Ong has affixed his signature by inserting a brand new camouflage Swoosh and gold hand-painted as icing on the cake.
The Nike Air Huarache and Air Force 1 "Awol Camo" created by SBTG for hypebeast are now available in a limited edition capsule exclusively on HYPEBEAST Store.
... Because the art is beautiful to look at, but it's even better to wear.
