Marques Almeida x Topshop
the inspirations behind their upcoming collaboration
September 30th, 2014
The portuguese duo Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida seems unstoppable: after their successful runways, since launching their own brand in 2011, they're now teaming up with Topshop with a whole new collection, selling worldwide strating from October 9th, which will be low cost of course.
Composed by 68 items, the collaboration is inspired by Marta's sister, Sofia Marques, and the whole nineties mood, from Kate Moss androginous early career years to Corinne Day and Melanie Wards advertising and editorials in old fashion magazines, provided by the Central Saint Martins library.
To make a more deep and submersive experience, they also listened to a lot of Skunk Anansie and Lauren Hill, to bring even more inspiration while designing the collection.
No room for some vintage, nostalgic feeling here: the aim is to recreate a vibe and the atmosphere of a decade: designers worked to make it modern and saleable: weareable and contemporary are the keywords, relying on the actual trend focused on the '90 from at least two seasons and here to stay for this one as well, until sping we predict.
Be ready to expect a lot of shiny leather, black or metallic, bright and vibrant colours, pretty unusual for this duo who is used to work with rather neutral shades but decided to follow their creative path from their own winter collection where definitely saw bold hues. Certainly we will find their distinctive label: ripped and deconstructed denim in every possible way.
