Bruce Weber for Barneys NY SS 2014 Campaign
Brothers, sisters, sons and daughters
February 10th, 2014
LGBT community is more than ever in current event from politics, sports, with the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games controversy to fashion like in this case. The brand new Barneys NY campaign called “Brothers, sisters, sons and daughters”, shot by legendary photographer Bruce Weber, stars transsexual models in black and white, with their partner, friends or family. With the picture goes a mini interview to get to know them better and learn more of what being a trans means and has meant to them and to their relatives. That's how we meet Gisele, raised in Harlem with her mother, Maxie neu, from a small town in Germany who always knew she was a girl or Edie Charles, who tried to array as a man, failing, just because she was considered as “too extravagant”. As for fashion, la crème de la crème of Barneys of course, from Haider Ackerman, Ann Demeulemeester, to J. Mendel or Manolo Blahnik.
For many people still a taboo in all sectors, it's very positive that this theme is gaining such positive attention throughout this campaign, especially if it goes viral and spreads over news and countries. It's much more than the average glossy-glamorous- and dare I say, soulfree- campaign we're used to every season.
