October 9th, 2013
Kathleen Kye is a name to keep in mind. This girl in her early twenties, was born in Detroit, but now lives in Korea, graduated in 2011 from Central Saint Martins has caught the attention of names such as Opening Ceremony and Harvey Nichols with her urban style and love for the silhouettes typical of men's clothing .
Kye’s winter collection, titled " Unemployed Youth : Homeless Youth " starts from streetwear to evolve into a contemporary, young, but more sophisticated and experimental style. Black, white, turquoise, yellow and gold are the colors that emphasize the key role of the prints, lettering, real graffiti that are a hymn to the roots of street culture, but that she trying to turn into something more complex and less immediate. To act as a counterbalance to the dry shapes, base of the collection, Kye makes leather jackets and mini quilts with important volumes that have focus on shoulders.
The Michigan girl plays with different textures , combining fur, leather, polyester, looking for a style that is unique and personal. Kathleen Kye is still young, still not quite able to fully express her talent, but on the right way to do it.
It was, different. It was, refreshing. It was what we’ve been waiting for.
