Les Deux's SS25 collection is an ode to Mediterranean chic
March 31st, 2025
The Danish brand Les Deux has launched its SS25 collection titled "Mediterranean Sports Society". The collection draws inspiration from three distinct urban influences, blending the rustic charm of Dubrovnik, the refined elegance of Naples tailoring, and the vibrant energy of New York streetwear fused with Ivy League preppy style. Staying true to the brand's dualistic approach, the collection weaves these elements together through thoughtful design choices, including bold prints, unique fabrics, and minimalist everyday essentials. The backdrop of Dubrovnik serves as the perfect setting to capture the essence of the collection. The SS25 collection presents an interesting mix of textures and silhouettes. It includes nostalgic knitwear, workwear, and unexpected fabric choices like broderie anglaise and lace. The color palette is strongly influenced by Dubrovnik, reflecting the deep reds of the terracotta rooftops, muted greys and sandy tones of the stone walls, and the rich blues and greens of the Adriatic and the surrounding countryside. According to Les Deux’s creative director, Mathias H. Jensen, menswear is currently in an exciting place. While the influence of the '90s is evident, other decades are also making a comeback. The summer knitwear of the collection shifts focus from beachwear to tennis courts, incorporating a vintage '70s aesthetic that recalls the famous rivalry between Borg and McEnroe. Items like slub yarn polos, crewneck sweaters, and knitted shirts bring a nostalgic vibe, adding a fresh twist to the brand's menswear offering.
Another key aspect of the collection is the influence of brocore style, which combines sportswear and tailoring. Jensen describes this look as a transition from sleek office wear to a more relaxed, stylish look, as if someone were leaving Wall Street to catch a game at Madison Square Garden. A basketball jersey might be worn over a shirt and tie, creating the perfect contrast between polished and casual. This juxtaposition, according to Jensen, is a defining element of the brand’s universe. Adding further depth to the SS25 collection is a collaboration with Italian artist Gianluca Cannizzo. Known for his expressive and playful style, Cannizzo’s artwork is featured on select t-shirts in the collection. His designs include imaginative pieces, such as a rustic restaurant table with a basketball, reflecting the unexpected contrasts that define the collection. This partnership adds an artistic dimension to the season’s offerings, enhancing the overall aesthetic. Texture is another focal point of the collection. Jensen observes that, while lace and broderie anglaise are not typically materials associated with menswear, their inclusion brings something unique. These materials are highly breathable, making them ideal for summer, and their intricate designs introduce an unexpected element of sophistication and texture to the range.
Workwear continues to be a fundamental pillar of Les Deux’s design philosophy. The collection includes robust twill and denim jackets and shirts, reinterpreted with a hint of tailoring. Jensen emphasizes the timeless nature of workwear, noting that these are materials built to last. However, the brand elevates the traditional workwear look by introducing coordinated sets that provide a more structured and refined feel, creating a balance between functionality and style. Finally, patterns and prints play a vital role in the collection, helping to tell the story of its Mediterranean influences. Landscape motifs and designs inspired by classic tablecloth patterns evoke the essence of Mediterranean cafés. Jensen explains that the brand wanted to incorporate elements of the surrounding environment into the designs, and the bold prints, particularly during the summer months, allow for a more adventurous style. The artwork, with its captivating designs, speaks to the brand’s desire to push boundaries while maintaining a connection to Mediterranean influences.
