The International Day of Happiness, celebrated every year on March 20th, is a global initiative that promotes the importance of happiness and well-being as universal goals. Established in 2013, this observance aims to remind us that happiness is a universal force that transcends linguistic, cultural, and generational barriers. Its celebration offers an opportunity to reflect on how joy can positively impact our lives, and which brand better than Chopard can embody this idea? Chopard, the historic high jewelry and watchmaking Maison, has always associated its name with luxury and beauty, but also with a deeper and more universal idea: happiness, optimism, and the "joie de vivre". This connection between jewelry excellence and the joy of life is found in many of the Maison's collections that feature the word "happy," starting with the very first created in 1976, Happy Diamonds. The idea behind this creation was to encase movable diamonds between two sapphire crystals, creating a continuous movement effect that symbolizes the freedom and vitality of the wearer – but also marks the liberation of the most precious gem of all from the traditional (metaphorical and literal) setting of jewelry through an entirely innovative design that places it at the forefront of modernity. Over the years, Chopard's Happy Diamonds concept has also led to numerous other lines, including Happy Hearts, a collection dedicated to heart-shaped jewelry; Happy Sport, a line dedicated to watches; and this year's new addition: once again, diamonds in freedom in a square shape for the now-iconic “happy diamonds.” All the different lines are characterized by the movement of diamonds that "dance" freely between the sapphire crystals.

But how did this unique idea come about? It is a "family" story because Chopard is, in fact, an independent and family-run Maison. It is said that the mother of the current co-presidents of Chopard, upon seeing the prototypes of this idea one day, exclaimed: “It is when diamonds are free that they are happiest.” It was the 1970s, a decade when the world and society were changing, and the concept of luxury was evolving: even the world of jewelry could not remain passive, and it was for this reason that, from the middle of the decade, based on this intuition, Chopard developed the concept of a jewelry collection that would conquer the world. Diamonds, which are themselves symbols of perfection and light, thus became a metaphor for freedom: every little movement of the wearer gives new impulse to their motion, constantly creating new light effects. Over the years, Chopard's connection to happiness has grown stronger, with the Maison choosing to celebrate the International Day of Happiness every year in a special way. During this occasion, Chopard boutiques are transformed into enchanted places, covered in flowers and surrounded by a joyful atmosphere while playful and interactive activities are organized to engage participants and spread a sense of cheer, just like the movable diamonds at the heart of the Happy Diamonds collection. This year, as tradition dictates, Chopard will enrich its boutiques with a profusion of flowers and activate various activities to celebrate happiness.

The philosophy behind Happy Diamonds is that happiness, like diamonds, shines brighter when it is free. This message is reflected in the essence of the design itself: a diamond that is not static, but lives and moves, just like the freedom and vitality that happiness brings. Chopard reminds us that joy is an energy that cannot be contained, but explodes every time it is free to express itself. And again this year, the Maison has invited all members of its community to this celebration of joy, with a smile reflected in the sparkling dancing diamonds. Each diamond that dances between the sapphire crystals becomes a symbol of an energy that spreads, inspiring happiness and beauty in those who observe them.
