BIRKENSTOCK x Filson tells of the artisanal roots of the two brands
For the challenges of modern nature
October 22nd, 2024
This fall, BIRKENSTOCK and Filson have teamed up for a timeless collaboration that pushes the boundaries of outdoor fashion. Three new models embody the craftsmanship and functional design of both brands, with functional silhouettes designed to face the challenges of modern nature. The connection to artisanal roots and the earth has been the main source of inspiration for this collaboration, which, through a mix of muted tones and vibrant colors, evokes the authentic outdoor spirit that has always been part of the DNA of both brands. Despite being separated by oceans, the German brand BIRKENSTOCK and the American Filson share the same passion for adventure and a rustic spirit, reflected in the capsule’s use of natural materials like Mackinaw wool, waxed cotton, and leather, as well as raw finishes.
The heritage of Filson’s "Original Alaska Outfitter" and BIRKENSTOCK's DNA come together in a practical and functional collaboration, inspired by the world of bushcraft. The palette is essential yet lively, with deep tones like forest green, mink, and burnt brown meeting the brightness of orange. The look is enhanced by antique brass buckles and a custom logo, which appear across all three models: London Methow, Lahti, and Skykomish. The first is a low shoe with an adjustable strap, comfortable yet sturdy, made from unlined leather to enhance a closer connection to the ground. Lahti is a hunting boot featuring a foldable upper in Mackinaw wool and a non-slip sole, while Skykomish embodies the utilitarian and rustic spirit of both brands, with a waxed canvas upper and a rubber-textured mudguard, making it ideal for mountain hikes and city strolls. A key element of the collaboration is the presence of the BIRKENSTOCK footbed in the Lahti and Skykomish models, which is anatomical, easily removable, and provides additional support and optimal weight distribution for shoes designed to make you feel deeply connected to the ground, almost like walking barefoot.
