Tyler the Creator co-signs a capsule for Louis Vuitton Men
A collection merging together Pharrell's and Tyler's colourful dandy aesthetics
February 21st, 2024
Tyler the Creator and Pharrell fans knew it wouldn’t be long before the two artists decided to work together. Not on an album, of course, but on a fashion line for Louis Vuitton Men, the brand division headed by the thirteen-Grammy award winner singer and producer. After sharing on a Paris and New York billboard an LV Speedy campaign featuring international sports and music stars LeBron James and Rihanna, the maison has worked alongside Golf le Fleur creative director Tyler the Creator to create a stand-alone capsule collection. The line of clothing happily marries the two artists’ colourful aesthetics, merging them into Louis Vuitton’s world-renowned motif. This time, the Craggy Monogram has been hand-drawn by Tyler, used to decorate clothing items and unusual accessories, from fleeces to cereal bowls.
The Louis Vuitton Men x Tyler the Creator new capsule collection is launching on March 21, further strengthening the maison’s relationship with the American music scene. As Louis Vuitton shares the first images of the new collection, it unveils a collection featuring intense camel-coloured suits, chocolate brown leather sandals and slip ons, pistachio green and yellow custard accessories, and a baby blue Ivy League jumper. A clear reference to the color palette of pastries, it is joined by another motif loved by Tyler, Airedale terriers, taken up as a graphic design on fleece jackets and as a leather cut-out on a crossbody bag. While shades of pink hint at Pharrell’s dandy style on the capsule’s ties and platform derby boots, technical garments like an anorak jacket and a windbreaker fuse function and elegance, drawing from the golf court aesthetic. Check patterns adorn each look, along with Golf le Fleur’s signature daisy-shaped charms.
Tyler the Creator’s unwavering passion for trunks is at the core of this new capsule collection. Featuring a special edition Courrier Lozine 110 (retailing for €68,000), the launch campaign draws inspiration from vintage nostalgia. It shows Tyler wearing a monogrammed aviator hat and sunglasses. This is not the first time the Golf Le Fleur founder has starred in a collection of the French house, as he was cast for the Fall 2022 collection, the last designed by the late Virgil Abloh. An artist whose visual direction has accumulated a wide pool of fans, both on stage and in his brand’s pop-up stores, Tyler the Creator’s signature preppy-urban style is incomparable, earning him the title of rap’s best-dressed icon alongside colleagues A$AP Rocky and Kendrick Lamar.
