VEJA launches its first hiking shoes
Created with 100% recycled polyester and organic cotton
April 27th, 2023
The Fitz Roy is VEJA’s first hiking shoe and a poetic tribute to a mountain range of the same name: a range hikers around the world dream of climbing, the Fitz Roy mountains are located on the border between Chile and Argentina. The iconic mountain in Patagonia (called "The Smoking Mountain" by the Indians) was first climbed in 1952 by two French mountaineers, hence why the two French founders Sébastien Kopp and François-Ghislain Morillion decided to use the outline of the mountain peaks as inspiration for the French brand’s shoe design.
The Fitz Roy is a technical hiking shoe with a solid and stable bottom section thanks to its multidirectional crampons. The upper is 100% recycled polyester and water-resistant through the use of a weave fabric that is treated with durable, PFC-free water-repellent materials. In fact, VEJA takes the environment very seriously. The brand uses Brazilian and Peruvian organic cotton for its canvas and laces, Amazonian rubber for its soles, and various innovative materials conceived in recycled plastic bottles or recycled polyester. The rubber is bought directly from cooperatives formed by families of seringueiros (rubber tappers) from the Amazon, and the price paid per kilo by VEJA is 4 times higher than the market price in order to protect the forest against deforestation and intensive cattle breeding.
The shoes come in 4 colorways: Basalte Black, Full Black, Gravel Nautico, and Gravel Pierre.
