The new PUMA x Rhuigi capsule collection
The third part of a collaboration toasting American classics and New York City
March 27th, 2023
PUMA and designer Rhuigi Villaseñor present the third part of their Capsule collection, toasting American classics and New York City. Bringing together past, present, and future, Rhuigi celebrates PUMA's place in global culture with this new collection that pays special homage to New York's five boroughs. While the first part celebrated the eclectic talent of street artists and the second part winked at a New York City staple, the humble slice of pizza, the third part pays homage to the city's rich hip-hop history and its connections to the subcultural phenomenon of breakdancing.
The third collection, presented by New York dance crew W.A.F.F.L.E., consisting of @taylah_gvng, @sean.mcfly, and @shoemanstro, celebrates the 50th anniversary of hip-hop culture with designs inspired by 1970s New York hip-hop and b-boying. The garments are designed with breakdancing in mind, both the shoes and the clothing. The T7 track top and track trousers are complemented by a selection of graphic tees and a bucket hat, while the iconic Suede BBOY completes the head-to-toe look of the collection. A retro graphic explicitly designed for the collaboration, which runs throughout the collection, references New York City and PUMA's headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Germany. The line is enriched by warm tones such as brown, red, and soft pink for the Suede collection.
