2 SPEED BIKING, a two-wheeled design evolution
A project powered by nss celebrating the biker aesthetic
February 28th, 2023
If the world of motorcycling has historically been linked to the stereotype of the straight white male, in recent years it has been overtaken by a marked female interest. Perhaps thanks to artists such as Lana del Rey and Rosalìa, who have extolled its aesthetics in Born To Die and Motomami, or perhaps because the new-age feminism has demonstrated that the appropriation of notoriously masculine objects and sports can represent an act of rebellion. What is certain is that the biker look has managed to remain impeccably glamorous even as it aged, having retained its hardcore identity over the decades even after hitting the catwalk. The first volume of 2 SPEED BIKING is the brainchild of Elodie Marteau and Lou Jacobée, offering a unique perspective on the biker subculture through an encyclopaedic journey full of creativity, including contemporary fashion, art and design.
Uncharted + Cultured: Perspectives on Motorcycle is the slogan that accompanies the first chapter of the series, demonstrating the desire of the two creators to bring an innovative vision to the world of motorcycling, combining the perspectives of designers, writers, painters, photographers, and the community in a single book. 2 SPEED BIKING, published by nss and out on 6 March, aims to dismantle the concept of the biker in order to recontextualise it in a modern key, adding a personal touch through exclusive collaborations and a work of curation that perfectly matches the concept of speed, mechanics and performance. Igniting a discourse that goes beyond the icon itself, every page of the first volume expresses all the beauty encapsulated in the biker aesthetic, from its profound cultural legacy to its darting future.
