Loro Piana is not just another brand. Its dual nature as a textile manufacturer of excellence and a fashion brand that exists above seasons and trends makes it an almost unique case in the luxury scene. If for others luxury is an image, for Loro Piana luxury is substance - and it is no coincidence that in recent years the brand has begun to participate more actively in the general life of fashion, but always on its own terms and conditions. This year, at Milan Fashion Week, Loro Piana opted for a conceptually out-of-the-ordinary presentation: a sensory journey, involving touch and taste, through those remote territories from which the brand derives those materials that have determined its legendary status over the decades. Peru, New Zealand, Australia, and Mongolia - so many lands from which come the noble fibers of cashmere, vicuña, leather, the merino wool of New Zealand's black sheep, and the plant fibers of lotus. It is precisely these lands and their innovative materials that inspire not only the colors and clothes of the FW23 collection but also the drinks served in the cafeterias created by the brand both in the courtyard of its boutique and the famous kiosk on Via dei Giardini in Montenapoleone.
The idea is, of course, to create an immersive journey-but while others might have understood the idea of "immersiveness" on a purely visual level, the brand has adopted a different kind of purely thematic immersiveness. Just like Loro Piana's clothes, the ultimate example of excellence that does not want to be conspicuous but to make itself felt beyond any possible misunderstanding, at such a limbic level that you just have to touch it to know that you are not dealing with any other brand, its activations also want to engage the senses in a way that has nothing to do with digital interfaces or animations, but is about the unmatched substance of a simple gesture like having a drink at the bar - a gesture in which the sublime quality of what you drink plays the main role. Similarly, the clothes presented this year by Loro Piana, connected to the territories of this imaginary journey through color codes as well as their geographical origin, are clothes designed to elevate everyday life with timeless quality and innovation.
Soft silhouettes, clean lines, functionality, and precision tailoring define the masculine side of the collection, which moves from green and blue hues inspired by the landscapes of the Andes to the neutral tones of the great pastures of New Zealand, continuing the hues become more intense as those of the red Australian desert while the climates of Mongolia inspired the construction of barbed and sheepskin. The star garment in this selection is the oversized version of the Horsey® Jacket, along with CashDenim jackets and heavy overshirts to which, in addition to the classic apparel offerings, moccasins and accessories such as scarves and beanies are paired. Timeless elegance is the paradigm of the womenswear collection, where elegance and performance become one, with coats with wrap-around volumes mingling with suits with natural aplomb, with coats and more formal garments inspired by the world of horse racing and embroidery embellishing outerwear pieces that include both refined cabanas and more rugged, athletic blousons. Materials also take center stage here, from vicuña, linen, cashmere, and CashDenim, through The Gift of Kings® wool and soft leathers, tartans, and jerseys to soft shearlings from remote Mongolia. Concluding the collection are bags such as the Extra Bag and Extra Case models, in wicker or soft leather, the Tasman Tote, and the Bale Bag as well as shoes, which also include shearling moccasins and Cashfur boots.
