European Union wants to reduce the number of fashion shows A set of guidelines to be implemented by 2030

The European Union, according to a report by Pambianco News, is taking steps to curb polluting production processes and energy waste within the fashion industry. The goal would be to put in place a series of measures to reduce show schedules. This would push fashion brands to take more sustainable paths by producing fabrics that are durable and recyclable.

The timeline extended to 2030 includes the implementation of a series of directives, the details of which were reportedly anticipated by Vivian Loonela, head of Estonia's EU delegation. Data that appeared in Err confirms this picture regarding environment and production control. These indicate that in the EU each person discards on average about 11 kilograms of textiles per year, mostly clothes. Therefore, Loonela explained, the EU Commission is developing «a sustainable textile strategy, with the goal of diverting as many items as possible from store shelves and people's closets to recycling and reuse programs by 2030». «Fast fashion is cheaper, but the products are often of lower quality and have a more significant environmental impact», Loonela concluded. A scenario shared by EU Commission Vice President Frans Timmermans, in charge of the EU Green Deal, who said a few months ago, «The clothes we wear should last more than three washes and should also be recyclable». In essence, the program aims at limiting unnecessary events and tighter control over production, as well as responsible waste disposal.
