Alexander Wang will walk the runway for the first time since the harassment scandal
The designer had been absent from the runways since May 2019
April 7th, 2022
Alexander Wang has announced that his next show will take place on April 19 in Los Angeles - the first since the sexual harassment scandal the eponymous designer had been accused of in May 2019 by ten men, all models or industry insiders. The matter had been resolved with a private settlement, a public apology post, and the partial "erasure" of the brand by prominent bloggers. But, during 2021, garments from the brand had returned to appear on various celebrities such as Rihanna, Rosalìa, Charli d'Amelio, Julia Fox and Lucy Liu, star of the brand's latest Holiday campaign.
Wang's return to the scene highlights the strong mismatch that exists between the real market and the vague ambitions of cancel culture - as well as a weakening of the latter. After all, in the field of fashion, in the face of "cancelled" designers like Gosha Rubchinskiy there are others who have made a great comeback like John Galliano after his arrival at Maison Margiela. Time will tell which side Wang is on - for now we can only wait until next April 19.
