Palmer//Harding - new basic

Il texano Levi Palmer e il londinese Matthew Harding s'incontrano alla Central Saint Martins e decidono di rifondare le regole del basico. Entrambi, osservando turnover stagionale, avvertivano una certa inspiegabile riluttanza da parte dei designers verso un capo d'abbigliamento fondamentale, sia per il guardaroba maschile, sia per quello femminile: la camicia. Scelgono così di dar vita a palmer//harding, debuttando lo scorso Settembre durante London Fashion Week con la loro collezione Spring-Summer  12.  Il singolare progetto consiste nel declinare un unico indumento, per l'appunto la camicia, in tutte le sue possibili direzioni. Se anticamente indossata da sola era simbolo di indigenza e inadeguatezza, assume un significato del tutto nuovo nel design di palmer//harding che in un gioco di proporzioni e ricercate tecniche di taglio, unisce in ogni capo classicità sartoriale e sperimentazione, dando vita a pezzi essenziali e vestibili, ma dotati di un'identità molto forte.

Nella collezione Autumn/Winter 12 il loro punto di riferimento è stata l'arte contemporanea, in particolar modo le sculture di legno di Bruno Walpoth e la fotografia di George Platt Lynes, sottilmente celebrate attraverso un lieve contrasto fra la texture dei materiali. La forma a tunica, protagonista indiscussa della nuova linea,  viene rimodellata attraverso tagli inaspettati, pannelli di tessuto cautamente inseriti e decine di minuziosi dettagli di cucitura,  raggiungendo il minimalismo puro ma di grande effetto che caratterizza lo stile del marchio.

Looking at the seasonal turnover, both felt a sort of strange regret in designers' works for an essential garment of men and women's wardrobe, the shirt. So they choose to give life to palmer//harding, debuting last September during the London Fashion Week with their Spring-Summer 12 collection. The unique project focus on a single garment, the shirt, declined in all possible directions. If in the past worn a shirt with nothing over it was considered improper, it definitely gets a new meaning through the design of palmer//harding that plays with proportions and sophisticated cutting techniques, blending in each garment the classic tailoring and experimentation, to create and plain and wearable pieces, but with a strong identity.

In the Autumn / Winter 12 collection, Levi and Matthew's point of reference was the contemporary art, especially the wooden sculptures of BrunoWalpoth and photography by George Platt Lynes, subtly celebrated through a slight contrast in texture. The tunic shape, protagonist of this line, is reworked through complex pattern cutting, fabric panels carefully placed, dozens of highly detailed stitching, reaching pure a but impressive minimalism,  which is definitely the label's trademark.
